Barack Obama signed the Violence Against Women Act into law late last week, ushering in changes for how institutions of higher education deal with violence against women. Colleges will now be required to provide programs to students and faculty aimed at raising awareness about stalking, sexual assault, and dating violence. Further, the act would force colleges to report statistics on such crimes as well as providing health and legal services to the victims.
